GLASTONBURY ROAD RACES

SUNDAY MAY4TH 2008

Thirty three members of Mendip AC turned out to run in the Glastonbury Road
Runs, many coming away with category wins, including all four cups in the 3K
and 5K events and providing the overall primary schools  1 milefun run winner in
Jamil Carse. As Jamil is only a year five he should be back next year to
defend his title. With Christian Young showing continued improvement to hold
Jamil to seven seconds, there was some great back-up from the clubs large
band of year fives, with James Williams, Daniel Solway and Jacob Gooch all
making the top ten. Alex Williams has a great run in 12th to win the year 3
award, while Simone Young finished in the top third of the race in 66th
position.

Ben Millar stepped up from winning last years primary schools race to take
victory in the 3K this year, while Rebecca Carver trailed Blake Parkinson home to
win the girls cup in a great 4th place overall. Kieran Young, Youcef Kuoidri
and Ruby Kelly all made the top ten, while Hayley Carver (15th) and Amy
Reakes (23rd) both had good runs. Dad Neil Derrick finished a steady run in
36th, not far ahead of youngsters Harriet Burr and Lizzie Hecks. Tarry Bird
was 55th, with Johanna Carver beating dad David inside the top hundred.

With the sole exception of an over- age runner, Aoife Thorogood headed the 5K
event in impressive style to win the girls cup, while Dan Wright won the
boys cup one place back. Josh Timmins finished in 22nd place, while mum
Launa Kelly completed just outside the top 200.

Eight club members took on the new 10K distance, with Tim Attwell first home
in a solid 41:25 in 33rd overall. Fellow under 17 Tom Derrick was a little
way back, running 45:16 in 77th, while Trevour Timmins ran 52:28, with Pete
Grosjean on 53:26, just eight seconds ahead of Brigitte Timmins. Ottalie Day
ran 56:19, with husband and wife team Frank and Hazel Attwell once again
inseperable in 57:47.

The club wishes to thank all the club members and parents who helped make
the day a success with the various officiating and organising jobs that were
sometimes handed out with little or no notice!
